   Troubleshooting MAPI

Question

How do I enable MAPI logging within Microsoft Outlook?

Answer

For Outlook 2003 and XP:

(1) Go to Tools | Email Accounts | View or Change Existing Email Accounts | 'Highlight the CGP Account' | Click Change
(2) Go to the Troubleshooting tab
(3) Check the box to enable MAPI logging and the options for 'Basic MAPI functionality' and 'IMAP Server Activity'

For Outlook 2007:

(1) Go to Tools | Account Settings | 'Highlight the CGP Account' | Click Change
(2) Go to the Troubleshooting tab
(3) Check the box to enable MAPI logging and the options for 'Basic MAPI functionality' and 'IMAP Server Activity'

For Outlook 2010 (video):

To collect the logs, once they have been generated, go again to the Troubleshooting tab and click the 'Show me log file' button. It is useful to know there is a 'Clear log file' button on that tab as well.

In the video for Outlook 2010 you'll notice another file called 'cgmxp.dmp' in the same location as the MAPI log file. You may also be asked to collect this file and share it with our support team as part of the troubleshooting process.
